I?m sure many people have seen the popular television show The Office and in that show, people who are supposed to be working are simply not. They are gossiping and browsing the internet looking at Renoir paintings and Youtube videos.
Now it might seem like a futile attempt to increase productivity, but one way to increase productivity is to increase company morale. This can be done in many ways. It?s been proven that a more pleasant environment can inspire people to work harder. Put some green plants in the office and fill the walls with office art that are not motivational posters. Posters are stupid and smart employees will see through them and feel sarcastic towards them. Art like Kandinsky paintings and impressionist paintings can make the employee feel more relaxed so they will get more work done and maybe even have some break through ideas.
It might also be a good idea to block those time wasting websites at work and to increase incentives for working hard. One can try to increase sales by increasing bonuses to top performers or run competitions inside the office to see who can be the most productive. Many people just need a little boost to work to their potential.
